Welcome to the Extra Innings Baseball Player of the Week.

Each week throughout the 2010 baseball season, Extra Innings-Baltimore North will honor a Baltimore area high school player and feature him in a profile on this page.  Players will be selected based on their performance and other factors related to their contributions to their teams.

Coaches are encouraged to nominate players, using the nomination form on this site.  All nominations will be evaluated by a team of local media experts and each Monday a new Player of the Week winner will be selected, based on performances from the previous week.  Winners will receive a plaque and be profiled on this page with a story, photo and video interview.  Recognition may also be made by other local media outlets.

Our final Extra Innings Baseball Player of the Year Award for 2010 goes to the pitching staff of the C. Milton Wright baseball team, which broke a 36 year old state record by tossing 12 shutouts this season, on their way to a 23-0 season and the Class 3A Maryland State Championship.

Senior Brad Markey and junior Bobby Ruse were an incredible 1-2 punch for the Mustangs of head coach Tony Blackburn as each hurler posted a record of 8-0 in 2010. Markey, the Baltimore Sun Baseball Player of the Year had four shutouts and a no hitter, while Ruse had five shutouts and a perfect game.

In addition, Tyler Yudiski and John Cobo each posted 3-0 records, as Yudiski tossed a pair of shutouts and Cobo added one.

Working behind the plate for all 12 shutouts and swinging the bat at a .548 clip was junior catcher Andrew Clow.

In recognition of the shutout record, the state title and the 23-0 record, all five of these young men will share the final Extra Innings Baseball Player of the Week honor for 2010.

"You can go right down this list and see we were 23-0 because we had pitching and pitching, pitching, pitching will always win," said C. Milton Wright head coach Tony Blackburn. "If we were to go through the shutouts, you can see Brad had a no-hitter, Bobby had a perfect game, John through a one-hitter, Tyler had a couple of one-hitters, we could have had five or six no-hitters this year."
